The Poland Middle School Sixth Grade class took their final steps out of the building as middle school students today. Welcome to seventh grade, Bulldogs!

Aim, Wrangle, Shoot, Score, Learn, Grow... All ON TARGET! Sixth Grade doesn't miss, even in their field trip to On Target Outfitters, where the Bulldogs celebrated an amazing year of learning with a day having some fun. Robert, that is some catfish you caught there!

Thank you to our Middle School PTO for bringing in Komara Outdoors for our fourth grade classes and teachers to meet some scaly new friends! Mr. Henry and Ms. Mordocco weren't even scared a bit! What an awesome presentation for the Bulldogs.

Mrs. Martin took the Bulldogs outside today for data collection, plotting, and graphing. But with what data? The fifth graders timed their 100 meter dashes in two trials to determine if they improved or maybe caught their breath the second trial. Our timers and runners really set a strong pace.

CAREER DAY! The 5th Grade Bulldogs presented careers to their friends in 4th grade! Each year, the fifth grade class will choose a career they are interested in and present information from a box project on what schooling is required, average pay, and duties. We heard from engineers, doctors, software developers, and yep, even a photographer!

Congratulations to the 5th and 6th grade bands and choirs on their outstanding progress this school year. They showed their talent in the spring concert. We loved the call and response from our choirs, a really cool percussion duet from Ben and Harrison, and then the bands took us home with exciting marches and rock and roll! Thank you, Mr. Hvizdos, Mr. Penney, Mr. Hayes, and Mr. Niro, for your dedication to music education in our schools.

A message from Poland Historical Society: Join us once again at Celebrate Poland for the annual Poland Art Show & Betsy Ross Competition, sponsored by the Poland Historical Society. On behalf of the Poland Middle School Kindness Club, sixth grade student Sophia Jones made a difference in so many lives. She imagined a fundraiser to support the Akron Children's Hospital through their Change Maker program by asking middle school students to donate toys and funds. She recruited friends from Kindness Club to create posters and flyers, leading to an outpouring of support that amounted to an $850 donation and multiple bags full of toys for the hospital! Thank you, Sophia, for being an outstanding model of what it means to take care of our community. Thank you, Mrs. Butch & Mr. Purins, for supporting this fundraiser. Thank you to all who donated!

The sixth graders at Poland Middle School enjoyed their final book club meeting of the school year with a visit from Superintendent Tommelleo! Students who chose "Tracker" by Gary Paulsen spent some time with Dr. Tommelleo to review the themes/lessons that Paulsen introduced and how they apply to the skills of hunting! Thank you to our sixth grade teaching staff for hosting the book clubs this year with our students!

The Poland Bulldogs found a podcast set up in various locations on campus... They chatted about why they love their teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week!

Congratulations to students from Mrs. DiMuzio's art classes at McKinley Elementary and Poland Middle School who were selected for the Akron's Children Hospital Art Contest! Poland is represented by 16 selections in 2026!

Just how big is our solar system? Mr. DeBolt's fifth grade classes demonstrated the vast distances between planets on a smaller scale, using tic-tacs, Nerd candies, softballs, exercise balls, and golf balls to represent the planets. They were all so small in comparison to our very large and bright sun! Mr. DeBolt told them that Nicoletta as Neptune could have been as far as 2 miles away for this to be 100% accurate, but then this would have been a field trip! It was a fun day representing the planets!

Poland Middle School fourth grader Nina from Ms. Landers class was selected as a winner of the Mahoning County Green Team Earth Day Billboard Contest! Her drawing is on display at 2271 E Western Reserve Rd (Car Wash). Congratulations, Nina! "Everyday is Earth Day. Remember to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! Don't Litter!"
